Activities/Attractions: Sosua, located approximately 25 km east of Puerto Plata, and less than 10 km east from Puerto Plata International Airport, is divided into two areas - Los Charamicos (western side) and El Batey (eastern side). Los Charamicos is predominantly occupied by Dominicans who make their living through fishing, tourism jobs or small businesses.
Sosua is a bustling Latin village centered around a magnificent beach and bay offering lots of small hotels, bars and discos, and plenty of interaction with local Dominicans.
The ½ km of beach has beautiful soft, white sand, clear turquoise waters, and sits sheltered in a small cove surrounded by amazing high coral cliffs. Just behind the beach there are plenty of souvenir shops and restaurants vying for your business. This is also where most snorkeling and diving tours depart from. Deeann can arrange diving, snorkeling and tours for you.
"This beautiful tropical hotel has everything you need and more. A perfect location just a very short walk to the supermarket, the beach, dining etc. The owner Deeann and her staff will do everything to make your stay Perfect, they will even share some secrets ( i.e., best restaurant, pizza delivery, a perfect walk, a deserted beach etc ) Rooms are tropically decorated and contain a small fridge, the only down side is the small hot water tank so shower quickly. Breakfast is served around the pool set amongst the lush gardens, the kitchen then becomes common so it is easy to make a snack or a meal if desired. We found this very useful, especially considering the supermarket is 2 minute walk away. An honor bar is available and ice cold drinks are always available. I have stayed in this beautiful hotel many times over the last few years and recently for a 2 month stay, and couldn't have been happier elsewhere."
"We recently spent 10 days at the Tropix Hotel in Sosua and had an wonderful stay. We were looking for an authentic experience, not a caged in, all-inclusive. Tropix has 10 rooms surrounding a beautiful garden and small pool. The incredible staff made us feel welcome immediately. Juan cooks amazing pancakes and has a smile to brighten each morning. If you are looking to be pampered and sheltered, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want to feel a part of the culture and enjoy really seeing the DR, this is the place. We can't wait to go back."
"The Tropix Hotel offers character, beautiful grounds, and exceptional hospitality. It is central to anything you could possibly want: authentic food, great shopping, and pristine beach. You can even visit one of the all-inclusive hotels to confirm that you made the right decision staying at this quaint, private, twelve-room paradise."

"We had the great fortune of finding a "gem in paradise" when we stayed at Tropix Hotel in Sosua. Very comfortable accommodations in every respect! How great it was to wake up to poolside breakfast - piping hot and down-home delicious! Nites and evenings lounging by the pool was nothing short of a heavenly inspiration! The owner, Deanne, has a natural knack for making you feel "at home". The gardens are beautiful and the atmosphere is quiet and intimate. The town and the beach are in within 5 minutes walking from the hotel. What more could you ever want? It sort of makes you not want to leave ... EVER! Whenever we are there (3-4 times per year) this is my hotel of choice."
"My very new wife and I (April 22nd, 2006) were lucky enough to find this one in a billion place to enjoy 10 unforgettable days in the Tropix. If I could meet you face to face I would tell you to drop what you are doing and jump on the first plane to the Tropix hotel. Look at the picture in the advertisement- it is exactly what it looks like. Pure paradise! A little off the beaten path, you will get to see a little culture and still feel right at home. Sosua and it's beaches, affordable local meals are just plain unbeatable. If your thinking Mexico, think NO!! Deeann has a place for you, and will take care of your every need. If your not interested in great service, a sense of home, an unforgettable experience, and a truly loving host: this isn't the place for you!"
"Spent three months there! If you are looking for a quiet and clean affordable place to relax, this is it! You are close to the beach and everything you could possibly need to get to! The owner is very helpful and is always available to recommend the best food in town! She serves a wonderful breakfast menu! I spent most of the time lounging at the pool! Great homey atmosphere. And if you are more into the nightlife there are discos and places on the beach! What makes it nice is everything is within walking distance, but it is off the main drag so that it is quiet! Had the best time and am looking forward to next year! Give this place a try you will be glad you did!"
"I love small, boutique hotels where you get the real flavor of the area. This is a primo example. Being there took me right away from my hectic life in the US and sent me into a calm and breezy state. The room was perfect, the pool was perfect. The plantings are lush and gorgeous. You should see the orchids growing wild on the trees! In season there are plenty of mangoes to go around - right off the trees on-site. The owner is a wonderful hostess and great fun. The pancakes prepared by Juan for breakfast are the best I've ever had. I'm going back again and again, when I can escape from the "hectic". I love it there!"
