Activities/Attractions: Some thirty kilometres from the ancient town of Dubrovnik and eighteen kilometres from Korcula, a thick forest of Alpine fir and oak descend down to sea level. It is in this setting that natures providence has placed the beautiful island of Mljet.

The special charm of Mljet lies its two salt water lakes, and the island in the lake upon which are built a Benedictine monastery and Church of St. Mary from the 12th Century. Other features include the imposing remains of an ancient palace and an old Christian Basilica in the port of Polace.

The National Park of Mljet was established in 1960 primarily because of its wonderfully dense forests of Mediterranean pines, Mediterranean oak and evergreen under bush.

"Cannot wait to go back ... the location is spectacular, with lovely walks through the National Park and lots of opportunities for cycling, swimming, snorkelling, canoeing, hiking etc. .. the hotel itself is comfortable and the staff were very friendly ... at the end of the day, the hotel is great if you want a comfy place with lots of access to the great outdoors and are willing to put up with the fact that you are miles from any town."

"Everything about the Hotel Odisej and the island of Mljet was wonderful. The transfer over on the boat which took about an hour was good. From arriving on the quayside to returning a week later everything was good. We stayed half board although full board was available. The food was very good. There was buffet service with plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner. Vegetarians were also well catered for. Everything is made on the premises including many varieties of bread. All of the staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. The island itself is beautiful with plenty of walks to go on. There are boat rides and car and kayak hire. You really must see the other parts of the island. There are plenty of tavernas to try with lots of fresh fish meals but also goats cheese and smoked ham are specialities."
