The town of Washington was surveyed by a young George Washington in 1749 and remains to a remarkable degree a village in which he would still feel at home. Rappahannock County as a whole, nestled against Shenandoah National Park, has thousands of acres of land in scenic and agricultural easement, preserving a rural way of life (enjoy apple- or peach-picking) with 21st Century social and cultural amenities (attend a concert, visit an art gallery).

General Information: Our 1860s farmhouse in the historic village of Washington, Virginia, will welcome you to a relaxing stay in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Your day at Gay Street Inn B&B begins with a home-cooked breakfast in our sunroom and the Inn features 4 individually decorated guestrooms, each with its own character (and each with private bath and individually controlled heat and air).

• Mountain View Room - A large, second-floor room with western views of Jenkins Mountain and Shenandoah National Park
  
• Blue Room - A spacious second-floor room with windows overlooking our yards, elegant draperies and reproduction period wallpaper
  
• Garden Room - On the first floor, our most elegant room has sun-filled morning views of our yards
  
• Shenandoah Suite - (available beginning August 2006): This two-room suite on our first floor will feature a large bedroom, western views of Jenkins Mountain and Shenandoah National Park
  

Well-behaved, quiet pets are welcome in the Shenandoah Suite with advance notice. The current innkeepers, Jay and Kevin, recently have restored and redecorated much of the Inn, maintaining a casual sense of comfort in a fine country house. On your arrival, enjoy complimentary wine or another beverage while you settle in and explore the Inn’s amenities:
