Activities/Attractions: Crested Butte today is a marvel of contrasts. High-speed lifts whisk skiers to the top of an expansive ski mountain abuzz with youthful energy, flanked by a modern resort with state-of-the-art services and amenities. Yet, just a few minutes away lies the old town of Crested Butte, one of Colorado’s largest National Historic Districts, looking much like it did a century ago when burly gold miners skied in from their mountain claims for supplies, good food and warm companionship. The historic town, bathed in antique lamplight, still knows how to welcome, entertain and pamper its guests.

Gunnison-Crested Butte; the perfect winter vacation if you are into real people, authentic Victorian and Western towns, genuine hospitality, skiing on world-class mountain terrain 'for all skill levels," and enjoying other winter activities like:

  • snowshoeing in the moon light
  • dog sledding through a glistening forest
  • snowmobiling on over 85 miles of well marked trails
  • Nordic Skiing on over 35 Kilometers of groomed and marked trails
  • ice fishing on pristine lakes
  • ice skating on the town rink
  • ice climbing on nearby falls

... and so much more. With a wide range of activities, you can do it all in Crested Butte. The summer season begins with Alpenglow – music in the park – overlooking magnificent Crested Butte Mountain. Have a blast at:

  • the 4th of July festivities
  • listen to world-class music at the Crested Butte Music Festival
  • participate in our famous Wildflower Festival. Walk up & down Elk Avenue on Arts Fair weekend and see the wonderful wares
  • enjoy short films at the Reel Fest
  • forage for mushrooms at the Wild Mushroom Festival
  • have a rollicking good time at Cattleman’s Days, Colorado’s oldest rodeo

"I have skied all over the greater northern U.S.. When the snow is good there is no better mountain than C.B. While on one of the most technical, yet personal mountains in Colorado the best place to stay is the Nordic Inn. Depending on your expertise, C.B. could be your perfect winter experience. From horse drawn sleigh rides, to deep powder skiing at Irwin Lodge, the C.B. area is one of the most complete Colorado experiences you'll ever enjoy. Again, I advise you to stay at the Nordic Inn. Allen and Judi go out of their way to ensure a fantastic experience for all that make their way to the beautiful southwestern Colorado. You can even get a great deal on a personal ski house."

"The Nordic Inn is a beautiful blast from the past. Living in Vail we so miss these old Ski Inns. I am so pleased Allen Cox has decided to honor days gone by and keep the old look. Allen was so delightful to visit with."

"A very friendly people you will find. Business runs very well when owners always at shop. Thanks Allen and Judy. You gave us a meaningful and peaceful vacation."

"We stay at the Nordic for a week in the off-season every year. Alan and Judy Cox are delightful hosts and very helpful. The rooms are a bit small, but Crested Butte isn't a place to spend time in a hotel room and the lobby is a great place to lounge and meet other guests."

"This is a warm, friendly place to stay! Judy Cox was very kind in greeting us during breakfast, and recommending a beautiful 8 mile hike to Copper Like via Judd Falls. The breakfast is very simple and healthy (toast, mueslix, coffee, hard boiled eggs) ... its located near the mountain base and the friendly service were great."

"We've stayed at the Nordic Inn several times now, both in the main building and the detached cabins ... There is a great sledding hill just steps from the inn, and the ski slope is only a few minutes walk. There are good places to eat within easy walking distance as well. We always look forward to going back, and would never think of staying anywhere else."

"The Nordic Inn is in a great location - a 2 minute walk from the ski hill. It is very quaint, and I immediately felt at home, due to the friendly innkeepers (Judy and Allen Cox). It was nice to have continental breakfast each morning in the breakfast room, or sit near the fireplace where people play checkers or read magazines. It was a very comfortable stay."
