"The Inselhaus is, without a doubt, our favorite B&B. Our visits to Macomb involve frequent trips to an assisted care facility so the Inselhaus serves as our escape from the stress and strain associated with those visits. The rooms are always immaculate and the service is superb. Breakfast is presented with a touch of class that is otherwise difficult to find in this Western Illinois farming community. What a wonderful place to unwind! Dorothee and Karl have transformed this historic 1901 home into a modern but still charming establishment. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed and provide a perfect balance of privacy, convenience and charm. But it is Dorothee’s & Karl’s personal attention to their guests’ comfort and needs that makes this one of the best values in Illinois. In turn, they always seem to attract the most interesting guests. A glass of wine in the evening by the parlor fireplace offers the welcome opportunity to relax with a good book or to participate in a stimulating conversation."
"Inselhaus was my family's home from 1902 to 1924 and it was an elegant house then. It has passed through a number of owners and uses until Dorothee and Karl purchased the house. Dorothee's almost magic touch has modernized it into a fine bed and breakfast and restored the house inside and out to its former beauty. On our twentieth anniversary my wife and I decided we wanted to spend it there. I insisted we have the master bedroom because when I was about 7 years old my Mother and I lived in that room for the duration of six weeks quarantine. Dorothee and Karl's restoration of the old family home is a great source of satisfaction and pleasure to our whole family. Often as family members from out of town come to visit, they delight to stay there and enjoy the nostalgia of it plus the warm welcome and hospitality of Inselhaus."
"Our stay at Inselhaus was a total escape from the stresses of life! From the moment we stepped through the front door we entered a time and place where our every want was met. Inselhaus is beautifully decorated and immaculately cared for! Dorothee, the hostess, feels like a forever friend who tended to our every want. She graciously showed us the entire home, including their private living quarters. She fascinated us with her life's story, as we sat in the parlor beside a warm fire that evening! The food was superb, and amenities exceptional. Do escape to this quiet B&B! There is none other that can compare!"
"It was the most romantic, relaxing, and peaceful time I have ever experienced in my life. Not only we stayed at a historical home, but we were offered the best of International cuisine right in our bed. I would highly recommend it. The food and the stay together!!"
"A beautiful home and great hospitality!"
"My family and I stayed at the Inselhaus the night before my daughter's wedding. It was absolutely wonderful. We were pampered like royalty by the owner and her staff. Each room is spotless with a private bath. The breakfast was delicious. I especially liked the fact that we could gather in a sitting room together and visit with all of our company as if we were home. I would give Inselhaus 5 ++ stars for offering all the comforts of home and then some."

"My husband and I stayed at this wonderful B&B for our anniversary. From the moment we walked in the front door, til the moment we left that next morning we were pampered and spoiled. The home is beautiful with intricate wood molding, antique furniture and lovely decor. It was immaculately clean. There was nothing out of place, not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere! Our bed was a very comfortable king size bed with soft bedding and lots of pillows. The fixtures in the bathroom looked brand new! Our room felt like a palace. There was a comfortable sitting area in our room, as well as a beautiful parlor available for our use. The owner made us feel welcome. She was friendly and gracious, with a great sense of humor. She welcomed us with cheese, crackers and wine. She was available to us for our every need yet she was never intrusive. This was truly a first class B&B. You can't go wrong in choosing to stay there."
