Activities/Attractions: Oatlands is a peaceful, pretty colonial township just off the Midlands Highway (A1), about 84km north of Hobart. The town has more Georgian and early colonial buildings than any other town in Australia.

  • two pubs, and one has a restaurant "Mishla on High" which I recommend
  • 2 coffee shops incorporating an Art Gallery and an Antique Shop
  • 3 antique shops and the Central Tasmanian Tourism Centre also has a wonderful selection of Tasmanian crafts for sale
  • an R.S.L. Club, Rotary, bowls, golf, football and a swimming pool
  • three churches; Catholic, Church of England and Uniting Church. All these welcome visitors

Hobart has an abundance of really good restaurants close by, in either Elizabeth Street, North Hobart, and at the water's edge and Salamanca Place. To name any in particular would be difficult. We have so many nice eating places now. The best view of Hobart is from Mt. Nelson, far better and easier than Mt. Wellington. Drive as if to the Casino and at the lights turn right and follow the signs to Mt Nelson Signal Station and, as a bonus, there is a delightful restaurant.

  • A visit to the Cadbury's Chocolate Factory is a must
  • Visit Moorilla Winery
  • The Botanical Gardens are the best in the nation
  • Salamanca Market on Saturday morning is a legend
