Activities/Attractions: Just a little more than
half an hour away from the capital city of Chetumal and its
airport, and about the same distance to the border with the country
of Belize, Rancho Encantado is situated on the shores of the
pristine waters of Laguna Bacalar, outside the small 16th century
village of Bacalar. Casa Estrella de Bacalar is located on the
lakefront at the north edge of the village.
This area, in the southernmost part of the Yucatan Peninsula, is
just at the point of developing as a tourist destination for the
eco-minded traveler who seeks escape from the larger, often
over-developed areas of the northern part of the
Peninsula.
Just an hour away from the nearest seaport of Mahahual, on the Caribbean coast, which is now a stopping point for cruise ships, the laguna is virtually undiscovered by tourism. It has always been known for the spectacular colors, much as the waters of the Caribbean, with its range of hues from emerald greens to azure blues and the famous brilliant arrays of turquoise and aqua.

Gardening and housekeeping services are provided and additional services of cooking and/or laundry can be arranged with the housekeeper at an additional cost. Meals can also be taken at adjacent Rancho Encantado at a 20% discount. Bar and spa services are also available at the Rancho.

Bacalar... now finished and the dream shared with renowned
architect, Ricardo Romay, has been realized.
Overlooking a small, private cove on the shore of Laguna
Bacalar, this gem of a house has all of the artistic
features that define each space, designed to provide maximum
appreciation of the magical laguna, with privacy, tranquility and
comfort.
From the long driveway through hardwood trees and coconut palms, to
the entryway into the charming, spacious courtyard with its lovely
landscaping and the fish pond at the entry door, there is an
immediate appreciation of what has been created.
- the house offers a stunning view of the magnificent blue-green
waters of Laguna Bacalar
- dining area, master bedroom, living room all face onto the
water
- the central part of the house has a kitchen with beautiful
hand-made louver cabinets, a wood and bamboo bar
- the dining area opens to the terrace overlooking the
laguna
- all the magnificent woodwork in the house is made of native
hardwoods, mahogany, cedar and others
- large, comfortable hammocks are strung on the terrace in front
of the master bedroom and living room, with the space in the middle
for outdoor dining
- the spacious master bedroom suite features an amazing mosaic
diptych by noted Mexican sculptor, Gilberto Silva,
occupying the main wall, and an open area for reading, writing or
painting
The other wing features a small, intimate beamed ceiling living room with built-in sofas adorned with piles of colorful Guatemalan fabric throw pillows and features:
- TV and DVD player is provided for movie watching when
desired
- the room opens, by sliding glass doors, on to the large terrace
running the entire width of the house, facing the laguna

separating the living room from the studio guest room and bathroom is a half-wall with louvres that can be closed for privacy during the night or left open for the view during the day
