Lyons and Henry Lyons, two Irish brothers, founded Lyons in the scenic North Santiam Canyon, 23 miles east of Salem. Other settlers soon followed from Scotland, Kansas and the Plains.

"A diamond in the rough ... Just 12 miles from Lyons, OR over a paved tree lined hwy alongside N. Fork river, and 1 mile from 18 hold Elkhorn Golf course. Totally surrounded by mountains/valley/trees without any sign of human habitation. A great hiking or biking trail (old abandoned logging road) that seemed to go on forever without any sign of human made tracks. Robin, the owner, a wonderful hostess who made fantastic breakfast. Stayed in cozy and romantic cabin, with fireplace and private spa. Anyone who wants to escape the hustle and congestion of urban life must try this place and nestle in nature's bosom."

"We were greeted with a friendly smile and was a lovely cottage that we stayed in, Rene's Cottage. It was very private and we have time to ourselves without anyone disturbing us. We could use the private phone in our room if we needed anything at the main house. They served a delicious breakfast at our Cottage (or we can go in the breakfast room), but we ask to be served in the Cottage so we could relax and stay in our robes that the Inn furnished us. We were able to go about one mile to play Golf or if we wanted a hike, Opal Creek is the place to go. Several hiking trails in the area and Detroit Lake is not that far away. Restaurants just three miles away from Elkhorn Valley Inn, for our evening meal."
