Activities/Attractions: Christchurch is a city in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. It is the largest city in the South Island and the second largest city and third largest urban area in the country. It is situated along the coast, north of Banks Peninsula, half way down the South Island's eastern coast. The city is named after its cathedral which is itself named after Christ Church, a college at the University of Oxford. With a population of over 350000, Christchurch is the international gateway to the South Island.

The large number of public parks and well-developed residential gardens has given the city the name of 'The Garden City'.

Hagley Park and the 75 acre Christchurch Botanic Gardens, founded in 1863, are located in the central city. Hagley Park is often used for sports such as golf, cricket, netball, and rugby, and for open air concerts by local bands and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

General Information: Welcome to Purple-Der House Accommodation ... situated in the North East of Christchurch, New Zealand in the suburb area called New Brighton - a 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach and shops, or 10-15 minute drive to the City centre. We offer a Motel, Lodge, Backpackers, Hotel lodgings for any one looking for somewhere to stay for a short time, a day or two, or even a few weeks.

If you have a car, or if you don't mind catching the bus, this is the place you will enjoy. Great place to stay while you are going to that flower show, conference for work or to play and watch sports - rugby, football, soccer, cricket, basketball, netball. Or a place to come to while needing a place to stay in between homes, or moving to Christchurch from another place in New Zealand, or from another country.

Christchurch city is recovering from a major earthquake on February 22nd, 2011. While some of the central business district is currently inaccessible, the remainder of the city and region are open for business and it remains the gateway to the rest of the South Island.
