Activities/Attractions: Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Nordegg is about a three-hour drive from Calgary, far from the hectic energy of an urban centre, yet close enough to a large city to be easily accessible. Much of this area is wild and untouched.

Once a booming coal town, Nordegg now hosts tourists and honours the development of Canada's coal resources at one of Canada's most complete industrial museums.

Nearby lakes and mountains offer opportunities for recreational activity and adventure at several provincial recreational areas, which are traversed by a number of trails including a 10,000-year-old First Nations' Trail. Some of the activities in and around Nordegg include:

  • cave exploration
  • heli-skiing
  • biking
  • dog sledding
  • river kayaking
  • ice climbing
  • big-game hunting
  • fishing
  • canoeing

“What I enjoyed at Cheechako Cabins ... the cabins are really nice inside. It is fun to look at the llamas and feed them grass. The owners’ dog, Willow, is very friendly and she likes to shake a paw. My parents are happy to let me play outside because it is safe. Only people who are guests are allowed. I had fun playing in the meadow and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit at night.”

“Our stay at Cheechako Cabins was a wonderful reprieve from our everyday stresses. We had a great rest and enjoyed the fact that the cabin was spotless and well maintained. Each cabin has a picturesque view and is situated in such a way as to offer maximum privacy to all the guests. We’ll be telling all our friends about what a great vacation destination this is. We’ll be back!”

"Home away from home! Family run business, cleaner than my own house! The cabins have everything in them from saran wrap to paper towel to cooking spray, etc. Location is so quiet and serene. We will definitely be returning."

“We had to write and tell you how much we enjoyed our stay in your cabins. Every convenience of home was available and I had the best sleep ever in the peaceful surroundings. We will be back!"

“We appreciated the extra care that was put into providing such clean accommodations. Our expectations were exceeded in terms of how well equipped the cabins are.  We found many activities to fill our days from hiking to horseback riding. On our next visit we plan to use our cabin as our base camp to visit Banff, Jasper and the Athabasca Glaciers on day trips. Thank you for being such great hosts!”
