Activities/Attractions: Cape Breton Island is place where captivating landscapes and strong cultural roots combine to create a sumptuous feast for the senses. Located off the eastern coast of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Strait of Canso in one of the most rugged, remote areas of the province. It's a confluence of beaches, cliffs, land and sea ideal for birds, with birdwatching a thriving pastime. The first Europeans to settle in Cape Breton were the Scottish and French, whose cultural influences still permeate the land. The Ceilidh Trail, Gaelic for party or gathering, greet visitors with stunning panoramas and the occasional sounds of Cape Breton-style fiddlers and bag pipes.
The Cabot Trail runs through much of the region and its changing landscapes. For a taste of Acadian culture, Cheticamp has the Musee Acadienne and in the north end of town, locals sell traditional handmade hooked rugs. Boat tours are available for exploring the charming and scenic surroundings of Port Hood and Port Hood Island (only about one kilometre offshore). Very close there are two beautiful beaches where you can stroll along the pristine waters of Cape Breton. You can relax at our private beach or enjoy an outdoor chess game in front of our house.
"Haus Treuburg is a handsome Queen Anne-style home dating from 1914. The three guest rooms in the main building (one is a suite) are nicely furnished in a spare style. As nice as they are, though, the better deals are the cottages behind the house, each with a private deck, an ocean view, and a gas barbecue."
General Information: Welcome to Haus Treuburg Country Inn and Cottages ... located in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, a pretty little fishing village on the Ceilidh Trail (Route 19) travelling along the west coast of Cape Breton Island. It is well known for sandy beaches and the warmest water in Eastern Canada. This area is the heart of the Gaelic language, Scottish fiddle music and step dancing. Come to the dances, concerts and ceilidhs and you will truly enjoy yourself.
The three cottages are nicely situated amongst apple trees between the old house and our private beach. The cottages are facing southwest with a beautiful view to Port Hood Island and a most spectacular sunset. Located on the second floor of the old house you will find the guest rooms.
