Activities/Attractions: Ketchikan is the fifth most populous city in Alaska and the southeastern most sizable city in that state. If you are here for a few days, here's some suggestions of area highlights.

• Start your visit with a tour of the Historic Creek Street area and downtown Ketchikan
  
• A number of adjacent attractions will give you a sense of the history that is our town, including Dolly’s House Museum, the Tongass Historical Museum, the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center and the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show
  
• The nearby Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery and Eagle Center, and Totem Heritage Center highlight the native cultural influences and traditions that have helped shape today’s Ketchikan
  
• Visit Saxman Native Village or Totem Bight State Park to view Ketchikan’s world famous collection of totem poles
  
• Choose from several hiking trails at the Ward Lake Recreation Area, or opt for a guided walk through the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary
  
• A visit to The George Inlet Cannery site allows you to look back at the industry that put Ketchikan on the map in the early 1900s as the "Salmon Capital of the World"
  
• Fly, cruise or choose a fly/cruise combination to whisk you off to Misty Fiords National Monument or after mid-July, to one of the many bear viewing areas
  
• Beach comb, picnic and wet your toes in the ocean at Rotary Beach, Refuge Cove State Park or Settler’s Cove State Park
  
• Board a floatplane as it carries freight and mail to neighboring communities and experience the day to day life of an Alaskan Bush Pilot
  
• Opt for a drop off at a remote lake and spend several hours in perfect solitude
  

• Whether you opt for a land or sea transport, keep an eye out for wildlife, birds and marine animals during your adventure

General Information: Welcome to Alderhouse Bed and Breakfast; your place to rest and relax after an exciting day of exploration and adventure here in Alaska's first city, Ketchikan. Alderhouse is a modern two story home of contemporary styling enhanced by antique furnishings and natural wood throughout. Large windows offer views of the Tongass Narrows and its traffic of float planes, ferries, fishing vessels and cruise ships.

Alderhouse offers three guest rooms, each with private bath, cable TV and wireless internet.  The main floor features our "gathering room" or great room with comfortable seating for your relaxation as well as your table for breakfast. There is also an outdoor deck with tables and chairs for your enjoyment.

At Alderhouse a delicious gourmet breakfast is served each morning. Hot and cold beverages are provided throughout the day and each evening, a special treat is available for your pleasure. Enjoy your morning coffee and marvel at the general bustle on this unique waterway as well as the beauty of the mountains beyond. Accommodations include:

• The Sitka Room is a room reminiscent of an elegant boudoir of 19th Century Russian Sitka. This room features two chairs for reading and is accented with Russian icons and Russian lacquer pieces. This downstairs room has a queen bed and private bath with shower ensuite
  
• The cheerful Petersburg Room brings to mind the Norwegian culture that makes Petersburg, Alaska the unique community it is today. With a cozy reading chair, sunny Southern exposure, and a private bathroom with shower ensuite, the Petersburg room is a wonderful choice
  
• The Juneau Room shares its size and rich feeling with our capital city. The largest room we offer, the Juneau room offers a king sized bed, loveseat alcove and bookshelf with an array of reading material. This room features antique accents from the gold rush era. This upstairs room has a private bath with shower access across the hall, robes are provided for your comfort
  

Alyce, your hostess, welcomes you to these warm surroundings. Alyce is a lifelong resident of Southeast Alaska, was born and raised in the Ketchikan area and is Alaska native. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe so she understands what you are looking for in bed and breakfast accommodations. She looks forward to
sharing her knowledge of innkeeping, the local area and the local culture with you.
