Activities/Attractions: The federal capital of Ottawa is situated on the south bank of the Ottawa River facing the French-speaking city of Hull in Québec. The imposing Gothic-style Parliament Buildings overlook the confluence of the Ottawa, Rideau and Gatineau Rivers and are surmounted by the 92m (302ft) Peace Tower, affording a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Guided tours are available. The colourful Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place here daily in July and August.

With its acres of greenery, Ottawa has an almost park like atmosphere in summer. In spring the gardens are ablaze with the tulips that commemorate Canada's aid to Holland during World War II. In autumn the surrounding Gatineau Hills light up with colour, and in winter Parliament Hill towers on its imposing bluffs above the frosty river like a guardian of civilization. Popular attractions include:

  • Confederation Square, site of the National War Memorial, is the focal point of downtown Ottawa
  • The National Arts Centre, a hexagonal complex on the banks of the Rideau Canal, houses an opera company, theatres, studios and restaurants
  • The Rideau Canal and the Rideau-Trent-Severn Waterway are part of a complex of recreational lakes and canals linking Ottawa to Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay
  • Outstanding among the city's many museums are the National Art Gallery, the National Museum of Science and Technology and the Museum of Civilisation
  • The Parliament Buildings, which are 20 minutes light walk from this guest house, set high on a hill overlooking the Ottawa River, are the focus of the city
  • Wander through the streets and stalls of the market, cruise along the city's interconnecting rivers and canals - everywhere you go you can see the soaring spire of the Peace Tower

"A wonderful experience with beautiful, calm and quite rooms and an excellent breakfast that no one should miss."

"Hospitality A1. A very friendly atmosphere and kind and thoughtful hosts. I totally enjoyed my stay here and will recommend this establishment to any other travellers that I may encounter."

"Location is excellent - near main trans-Canada highway (Queensway - 417) and bus station, about a block from the main street of centre town Ottawa (Bank St) and within a mile or so (1.6km) of Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal and other downtown attractions. Parking is included and rates start just above $C50 (single occupancy). This property is an older house with shared washrooms - nothing fancy - colour cable TV in rooms, no 'phone in rooms, 'phone in living room costs 25 cents for local calls (coin-operated). A hot breakfast is included in the price, a bargain compared to most Ottawa, Ontario lodging."
