Activities/Attractions: The Auberge is located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal, which offers a wonderful window on everyday life in Montreal. The Plateau is an area of unique architecture. Here you can find outdoor staircases in a wide variety of styles as well as finely wrought balconies and a network of inter-connected lane ways. In addition to being a much sought after residential area with its tree-lined streets and brightly coloured homes, the Plateau is known for its very present commercial character, especially on Mont-Royal Avenue, Saint-Denis Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard.

An important cultural centre, the Plateau also contains the largest concentration of cultural activities in the entire metropolitan area (theatres, bookstores, shows, cafes, bars, dance, etc.). Also, the Plateau is well renowned for the conviviality of its lively residents. The name Plateau is geographical in origin: the land at the bottom of Mount Royal stretching to Sherbrooke Street forms a plateau.

Across from the Auberge is the beautiful Parc LaFontaine, the third largest park in Montreal. Its name honours Sir Louis-Hippolyte LaFontaine, a former Prime Minister of Canada. Originally a farm, the site served as a place for military manoeuvres until 1888 when the city of Montreal laid it out as a park. Today, the park welcomes a diverse crowd of people who come to relax, have picnics and enjoy the outdoors. The artificial lake offers activities year-round such as pedal boats in summer and skating in winter. There are numerous shows at the outdoor theatre as well as festivals and other activities of all types. The park's statues and monuments commemorate Félix Leclerc, Sir L.H. LaFontaine, Dollard-des-Ormeaux and Dante. On Sherbrooke Street, opposite the Notre-Dame Hospital, Place General-de-Gaulle can be seen.

"The true stand-out of our vacation, however, was our marvelous hotel, Auberge de La Fontaine. The Auberge is beautiful, facing the lovely Parc de la Fontaine.  It's also located in the Plateau district, where there are many contemporary and charming shops as well as what seems like most of the best restaurants. All of the restaurants we chose from recommendations and reviews turned out to be within walking distance of our hotel. We were fortunate enough to have one of the inn's most charming rooms, spacious and attractive with a large terrace facing the park, not to speak of an in-room double jacuzzi, quite welcome during the afternoons of days filled with long snowy and icy walks. A good television (which helped us avail ourselves of both "South Park" and "Law and Order" in French) and an excellent sound system were among the accoutrements. When we go back, which we undoubtedly will, we hope to have the same room in spring or summer weather, and enjoy the lovely terrace even more."

"Thank you for your wonderful hospitality! The beds are comfortable, the rooms quiet, the breakfast superb. It was wonderful to be able to use the kitchen and everyone is so friendly! It was an excellent stay!"

"I found your wonderful inn after reading many reviews of Montréal accommodation via the Internet and was instantly drawn to the charming inn and the photos of the rooms. Who could have know the best was yet to come? The room, breakfast, kitchen and best of all: the staff was wonderful! We will be back soon and will pass the word to all of our friends in the USA. Thanks for a restful long weekend."

"This is an exceptionally appointed and decorated hotel, with remarkably elegant and superior suites at the cost a mere fraction of that which the mainstream hotels charge. It's more than a 'home away from home' in that one does not want to return home from this hotel; it could not be better in any respect, in terms of location, appointments, services, decor, hospitality, value; in every respect. By far, a completely new and clean facility throughout, with genuine warmth and comfort beyond description. The finest Montreal or any North American city has to offer, and in a district with superb restaurants. Each unit is a home unto itself, and one is not aware of other guests or units."

"We stayed at the Auberge de la Fontaine for 3 nights last week & just want to say that we've rarely been happier in any hotel. The staff is  incredibly helpful and welcoming, the room, bathroom, etc. were great, the mattress was firm, the breakfasts were delicious, and there were so many other nice & thoughtful touches. The owners are to be commended for running a terrific hotel, and I hope they give their staff big raises!   Thank you helping to make our stay in Montreal so wonderful."

"This is a marvelous Auberge! We enjoyed our stay here & feel most enthusiastic about the hotel!"

"Thank you very much for making our stay so enjoyable! We loved the complimentary snacks in the kitchen & the delicious breakfast. The room was very nice and comfortable, and the staff was always pleasant. Merci beaucoup!"
