It's also the home of the world's highest mountain (Mauna Kea), though much of the base is submerged. Nearby Kiluaea is the most active volcano in the world and the most popular visitor attraction in a state that's full of visitor attractions. The Big Island, as it's called, is the only place where one can ski in the daytime and walk barefoot in a warm sea at sundown. The Kona District stretches about 60 miles along West Hawaii and is divided into North and South Kona. Kailua-Kona, the bustling, sunny town at the heart of the district, is just a 10-minute drive south from Kona International Airport. The whole Kona region buzzes with activity: triathletes at the Ironman in October, champion fishermen at August’s International Billfish Tournament, celebrants at festivals for coffee and chocolate, plus cruise ship passengers, honeymooners, families, golfers, film crews, backpackers, scuba divers, naturalists, shoppers, conventioneers and vacationers from all walks of life any day of the week. Attractions include:
Rainbow Plantation is located upcountry at 1,200ft elevation surrounded by many other coffee farms. The mild climate, altitude, and cloud cover in the afternoons contribute to the best 100% Kona Coffee found on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our coffee is roasted from medium to dark by demand, to offer the freshest and fullest aroma. This coffee is offered for sale or mail order at a low price of $16.95 per pound plus priority mail shipping. "The B&B is far enough off the road that you barely hear car and truck traffic. The views are spectacular from most of the rooms and from the breakfast lanai ... Marianna greeted us and was very pleasant." "We stayed at this Jungle Paradise in a room with king size bed and private entrance ... it is clean and overall a fantastic place with lots of birds, (incl. peacocks and chicken and parrots) and other cute animals ... breakfast is served outside with the most beautiful view you could imagine. You can eat all the macadamia nuts you can find (nutcrackers are provided) and also tropical fruit that grow on the grounds." "The owners were great. They really love animals ... they were just wonderful people. I can't believe that the place was so cheap ... compared to what you have to pay for one of those huge hotels there! I will definitely be back!" |

Marianna and Reiner Schrepfer have created an environment filled with unexpected surprises. Walking the paths through their 7 acre plantation revealed delightful pockets of flora and fauna that make The Big Island so special.
