Activities/Attractions: The historic and charming Castle of Montalto lies in one of the loveliest and most unspoiled parts of the Chianti area of Tuscany, not far from Siena, and is very centrally located for art touring - an excellent home base for sight-seeing, winery visits and exploring back roads.
The region around Montalto is
incredibly rich, particularly in art, architecture and history. A large
part of the masterpieces of Italian art can be found in Tuscany - not only
in the major museums, such as the Uffizi in Florence, the Pinacoteca
Nazionale in Siena, the Etruscan museum in Chiusi, all of which are within
easy reach, but also in the churches, palaces and squares of every town
and village and the castles and simple centuries-old farm houses that dot
the countryside. You will not tire of exploring back roads, and each
excursion will bring some new discovery, even if you come back year after
year. There is always something else to see!
Montalto Castle, having various
separate houses of different size, common gathering spaces and a lovely
chapel, is the ideal location for special events, workshops, meetings and
ceremonies. Weddings, seminars, family gatherings and more can be hosted
within its walls and extra services organized for these occasions.
"We visited Montalto for a music workshop. I had done many workshops in a school type environment so Montalto was so different because it was comfortable, homey and our hosts, Giovanni and Diana were so gracious and accommodating always smiling. The grounds and surrounding areas were so beautiful. Our accommodations were so comfortable and private and enjoyed the common kitchen/living area for eating in at times. We loved Italy but most of all we loved Montalto. We both hope to visit again someday. Thank you again to you Giovanni and Diana for a memorable stay."
"What a spectacular place! We couldn’t have hoped for anything more beautiful or romantic, and even now when we meet friends of friends, they all know us as “the couple who got married in that beautiful castle!” Diana was a great help in organizing things, we could not have done it without her. We came back this year for our anniversary, and still loved it just as much. There have been some renovations (there is a new dining hall now, we had our reception in what had once been the granary!) but the feeling is still the same: tranquility, beauty, romance, the perfect place to relax and enjoy Tuscany."
"We had such a lovely time staying at your beautiful "village", (photographs just do not do it justice) that we were very sad to leave. When you stay somewhere that makes you feel so relaxed that you think you have always been there is truly a good sign & never have we slept so deeply - either the wine or the clean, fresh air - I think the latter! We have already started talking about a family holiday there next year ... so you could be seeing us again + entourage. Many thanks again for your hospitality, we shall return."
"We spent three weeks in Italy for our Honeymoon. Without doubt, our favorite time was spent within the castle walls of Montalto. Giovanni and Diana was the most gracious host we encountered in the country. They greeted us warmly with a bottle of wine, and were more than willing to give any help and advise to make our time as inviting as possible (We highly recommend a local wine tour). Leaving the loving family atmosphere was difficult; hopefully, we can make it back in the future to celebrate an anniversary."
"Five years after our honeymoon stay at Montalto, coming here again certainly wasn't a disappointment. To us Montalto is magic. The tranquillity of the Tuscan countryside, the professional and yet very personal touch and approach, the culture ... Well, others have said it and better, but it's clear that we'll be back ... Montalto is easy to fall in love with and is again all too difficult to part with."
"Last June was my third time to spend 2 weeks playing chamber music at Montalto. This last time I brought my 91 year old mother. She thoroughly enjoyed her stay there and is still talking about it. As usual, everything was perfect."

"I visited Montalto this summer for a chamber music workshop - ten friends who spent 2 weeks together playing string quartets and enjoying beautiful Tuscany. I enjoyed everything about Montalto, especially the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful scenery out of every window. It was just perfect."
"Thanks to Diana and Giovanni for sharing your unique corner of Italy with us. We’re especially impressed with the way you have melded the solid grace of the medieval architecture with enough modern touches to keep us comfortable while experiencing a bit of nostalgic Tuscan glory."
"We spent 4 memorable chamber music vacations at Montalto. The romantic castle and its surroundings make it an ideal location for exploring the Chianti hills and the famous hill towns of Tuscany nearby. The modern accommodations, the warm welcome and hospitality of the host family and staff always makes us feel at home. Thank you, Diana and Giovanni. We hope to return soon."
"David and I want to thank you for the beautifully restful week we spent with you at Montalto. Nothing makes me any happier than looking over the wonderful Tuscan hills behind the castle. We hope that we can visit again soon; it's like coming home!!!"
"We were married in the Siena Town Hall after staying at the castle with family from both sides of the pond. Everyone had a great week and still talks about it fondly requesting we arrange a reunion visit soon!"
"I was married at Montalto. What an incredible experience. Not only is the castle beautiful, but so are the people who run it. Thank you Giovanni, Diana, Chiara and Roberta for all you did to make our stay unforgettable. My friends and family had a wonderful time."
