Activities/Attractions: Located in a valley hugged by the peaks of the southern BC Rocky Mountains, Fernie has its roots in the coal mining industry. Today, the area is renowned for pristine wilderness, upscale resorts and bountiful outdoor activities. On the region's rivers and streams, fishers too find an idyllic getaway. Clear streams and cool rivers are ideal for trout, drawing fly rods to river banks throughout the region. British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) has crowned Fernie as the "Best Little Town in B.C." twice.

During winter months, Fernie Alpine Resort draws skiers and boarders to some of the most lustrous powder in North America, averaging 8.8 metres (29 ft) a year.
In summer, mountain bikers take on the hills with fiery determination, re-using the same thrilling slopes skiers careened down months before. More sedately, golfers in the valley enjoy a spectacular panorama as they try to drive and putt their way to par at the Fernie Golf & Country Club.

"This was the second time that we stayed at the hotel. The first time I think it was called Riverside Mountain Lodge. We stayed both times in a 2 bedroom Condo. They seem to have tons of different styles of condos and rooms. It's a very large property (probably the biggest in Fernie). There were tons of amenities including the best waterslide and pool I have ever seen at a hotel. The kids loved it and we did too. Situated right on the river we fond that it was close to the ski hill, the town and the golf courses. The thing that blows us away however is the price. I don't know how they can do it, but book them before the word gets out. By the way, the skiing was the best I have ever seen (and I have been all over the states and Europe. I have never seen so much powder. Fernie truly is in a class by itself as far as awesome snow. If their prices are this good in the summer, I am definitely coming back (and bringing some friends)."

"We stayed 3 nights at the Stanford Inn Fernie in June 2007. Fantastic value- our room with 2 queen beds was $69. Very clean facilities, friendly smiling staff and a wonderful swimming pool with huge waterslide - the kids loved it! The Continental breakfast was a bonus - served until 10am, great for families not wanting to get up too early. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, can't wait to visit it again!"

"My family of four, including 2 children recently stayed here for two nights. We stayed a 2 bedroom condo unit, which was 3 stories, including a loft master bedroom with ensuite, main floor kitchen/dining, and bathroom, and lower floor twin bedroom (bathroom locked by owner). The unit was very new, very clean, and very close to the ski hill (a few minutes drive). It is located about halfway between downtown and the ski hill. The price was unbeatable, especially compared to other Fernie accommodations. I had to call back to double-check because it was so hard to believe. The main hotel had an enormous slide which the kids loved. Ok, we loved it too. There were also two outdoor hot tubs outside the pool area. We had stayed in Fernie a few years before in one of the ski in/out hotels, which was marginally more convenient, and a lot more money! We will definitely book the Stanford again if we ever go back."

"Stayed in the large chalet with several kids and a fine time was had by all. The slide is great fun for the kids and the off season provides some great deals. We come up from Montana and stay here 4-6 times per year Winter and Summer."
