It is famous for its pristine beaches, dramatic cliffs, dense tropical foliage, awe-inspiring canyons, and majestic mountain ranges. These landscapes can be actively enjoyed in activities such as hiking, surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, wind surfing, whale watching, golfing, horseback riding, camping, or just basking in the Pacific sun. The island's relatively small size makes most activities accessibly by car within one to two hours. Poipu Beach Park is a large beach park that is only about a one minute walk from your doorstep. This special place has been a long time favorite family gathering spot for Kauai residents and tourists. The beach is separated into two large crescent shaped areas. In one area is the World famous Brennecke's beach which is a body surfing and boogie boarding Mecca. The other crescent beach is a place where you can swim, or do some snorkeling. If you are looking for surf, you might just catch a wave or two offshore. Across the street from the park is Brennecke's restaurant, and a deli, and next door is Nukumoi Surf Company where you can rent boards, and all types of beach and swim gear. There is an abundance of trees and picnic tables, places for children to play, and there is usually a lifeguard on duty during daylight hours. Beachside Poipu has arrangements with an "Activities Concierge" that can assist in setting up activities at a discount.
