Explore lively market towns, rolling open scenery, stately homes and magnificent gardens plus experiencing the bustling city culture of Swindon and Salisbury. Quite apart from the two world famous attractions of Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral, the area has so much more to offer and Lodge Farmhouse is the perfect tour base. The county is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England and also a mysterious place of prehistoric stone sites, strange crop circles and magnificent chalk horses Nearby nestles the tranquil Chalke Valley in which a string of small villages lie sheltered beneath high maternal downs, typifying the landscape of South Wiltshire and Cranborne Chase. Visitors love to explore the maze of lanes and are always rewarded along the way by the charm of the cottages, the friendliness of the communities and often by the hospitality of the many rural pubs and restaurants. Salisbury, on the banks of the River Avon, is best known for its proximity to Stonehenge and for its glorious cathedral. The town retains some lovely medieval streets and the 15th century Poultry Cross is worth a visit. Market days enliven the city center every Tuesday and Saturday. Guided walking tours of the town operate at 11am in the summer and may operate in other months; there are also Cathedral Walks and Ghost Walks. Click here for area attractions and things to do.
