Activities/Attractions: Walking around the almost perfectly preserved city of Bruges (Brugge) is like taking a step back in time ... from its 13th century origins as a cloth manufacturing town to its current incarnation as a tourism mecca, Bruges seems to have changed little.
Bruges incredibly well-preserved medieval architecture makes it one of the most exciting tourist attractions in Europe. Besides architecture, sites to see include several museums:
Of course a visit to Bruges wouldn’t be complete without a canal or carriage ride, sampling the chocolates and waffles, shopping for craft work including Bruges famous lace, visiting art galleries, climbing the belfry or trying several of the more than 350 available Belgian beers.
Perhaps the most astonishing thing about Bruges is the consistently warm welcome its residents provide to the swarms of visitors. The basis for this is more than mere economics, those who live in Bruges love their city and can well appreciate that others want to experience it.
"I have just returned from a three night stay at Cote Canal and have to say what an amazing place it is. Everything about it makes you fall in love with it. Our room was beautiful and luxurious. It was over looking the garden which was right next to the canal. Caroline, the host couldn't have been nicer. She made us feel so welcome. Each morning she did a wonderful breakfast which we could have in the garden if we wanted. You can really see she has put her heart and soul in to this mansion house. Every detail from the rooms to the garden are so impressive. The location was fantastic as being 8 months pregnant I wanted to be in the heart of Brugge. She recommended lots of great restaurants and booked us up on a day trip. I can't recommend this place enough. Now I am just looking forward to going back once the baby is born!"
"We were two couples who spent the best three days of our 5 week France trip in this wonderful and relaxing B&B. Caroline, a remarkably warm, friendly and knowledgeable person, gave us her undivided attention at check in, explaining in great detail what Brugge had to offer. We had two suites on the second floor that were decorated elegantly and tastefully with every personal touch to detail, making it a very relaxing place at the end of the day. I only wish all our stays throughout europe could be done in this style."
"In my travels I have stayed at some fine hotels in the world and to be quite honest this would be my favorite to return to. I'm American and my husband is English and it suited us both. I like a little over the top and he leans towards subtle and quiet. Would we return again ... are you kidding, again, again and again."
"A hidden gem in beautiful Bruges, the Cote Canal is an exquisite bed and breakfast in a great location, with gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfasts and gracious hosts Caroline and Henk."
"From the moment we walked into the Cote Canal , Caroline the B&B owner made us feel so welcome. Caroline has decorated the B&B with great taste and attention to detail. Our room was excellent and included all amenities that any guest could need. The view from our room of the garden and the canal was very special. Best of all was Caroline's personal and very kind attention and helpful advice regarding how to enjoy stunning Brugge."
"Stop your search for a hotel in Brugge and book a room here. If you are lucky and they have availability you are in for a special treat. We enjoyed every moment of our break here and Caroline is an outstanding hostess."
"Stunning room, charming host, beautiful Brugge. Really worth a visit. This B&B is spectacular. We have travelled a lot and this B&B is up there with the best places we have stayed. Gorgeous rooms, very relaxing atmosphere, delicious breakfast and Caroline is very helpful and kind. Stay here if you can."

"My partner and I spent the weekend at Cote Canal and it was an amazing experience. Caroline runs a perfect bed and breakfast in the middle of Brugge where everything is within walking distance. The room we stayed in was immaculate and very comfortable, each room has been decorated in a different style. We had breakfast out in the gardens facing one of the canals, we just sat in the sunshine enjoying a beautiful home cooked breakfast watching the world go by. If you are staying in Brugge don't stay anywhere else, you will not regret choosing the Cote Canal."
"Unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night, I say unfortunately because it is a lovely B&B and it was hard to leave! The room decor makes you feel like you were living in luxury and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever felt. The house is very old and has a lot of charm. Everything was perfect from the robes included in the room, to the yummy breakfast in the morning. Caroline was a very attentive and gracious hostess and made sure that we were comfortable and all of our needs were met."
"The configuration of the B&B (private guest entrance and bedrooms upstairs) allowed privacy and at times we felt as if we were the only people there although all 4 rooms were occupied while we were there. And then there is Caroline. A more attentive and helpful host would be hard to find. Her advice regarding sights and restaurants is excellent. We have stayed in many B&B s over the years and do prefer B&B s to hotels but we would have to say that this was our most wonderful B&B experience. We will be back."
