Activities/Attractions: Located along the Hamakua Coast on the north eastern coast of the Big Island of Hawai'i, Waipi'o Valley is the largest and southernmost of the seven valleys on the windward side of the Kohala Mountains. Waipi'o is a mile wide at the coast and almost six miles deep. At the coast there is a beautiful black sand beach. On either side of the valley are cliffs reaching almost 2000 feet with cascading waterfalls.
Visitors will find a beautiful place where wild horses wander dirt roads, hippie carpenters fashion tables by creeks, and mountain-apple pink blossoms and red double hibiscus plants spill out onto the narrow lanes. Frequent rains splash the lotus ponds and fuel the 1,200-foot Hiilawe waterfall. The valley's beach often has rough waves, making it good for strollers and the most capable surfers. During the winter, humpback whales cross the ocean just beyond the valley's opening to the sea.
Honoka'a is located on the Big Island's Hamakua Coast some 40 miles north of Hilo. The community is a close-knit one that has roots going back to the sugar plantation days of more than 100 years ago. The plantation is gone, but the town lives on. Honokaa residents and those living in the surrounding area have proven to be resilient. managing to maintain their unique and cherished lifestyles.

"Beautiful view, charming room. Talk about getting away from it 'all'. Loved the sounds of the birds, wind, rain - loved the geckos at night! Thanks for showing us the real Hawaii. (PS, the bed is fantastic!)"
