Activities/Attractions: Camp Wood, Texas is a dynamic community of some 800 souls located in Real county on the western edge of the Texas Hill Country in the Nueces River Canyon - "One of the fifteen most scenic spots in Texas." The River Canyon area is rich with wild game and sparkling Hill Country streams.
Located near the edge of the subtropical Chihuahuan desert of Mexico with its parched terrain and rapid evaporation, Camp Wood is warm and dry in the summer and mild in the winter. Spring and fall are the best times to visit the area, but summer activates bring visitors from all over.
Long before the White Man came, Indians also favored the area, and evidence of their habitation is still plentiful in flint points, occasional shell beads and other artefacts.
Camp Wood offers year-round activities for the outdoor minded individual. Swimming, camping, and hiking are favorite activities for the entire family. In addition, the area is rich in fossils, Native American artefacts. Other attractions include Lake Nueces Park and Scenic Drives.
In addition, almost 200 bird species visit the area each year. Birders seeking the golden-cheeked warbler, black-capped vireo, and green kingfisher should visit between April and May. The flora include oak trees, juniper (cedar), mountain laurel, prickly pear and many other species of cacti.
A series of highways in a loop to the northeast span some of most spectacular scenery in the Texas Hill Country. It is a land of massive timbered hills, steep cliffs, small secluded valleys and streams: North on Texas 55 and F.M. 335, east on Texas 41, south on F.M. 336 and U.S. 83 to Leakey, then west on F.M. 337 back to Camp Wood. That last leg on F.M. 337 is a sample of the route's continuing grandeur all the way east to Medina.
General Information: Welcome to Now and Then Cottage in Texas Hill Country ... situated in the quiet community of Camp Wood near the beautiful Nueces River. The Now and Then Cottage is just minutes away from restaurants, grocery stores, and the shops of downtown Camp Wood. The Nueces River is a short 7/10 of one mile from the cottages. We offer two unique cottages:
Cottage 1 is a spacious open court, one bath stone cottage that sleeps four guests comfortably with the option of sleeping five. Features include:
- a kitchenette
with a refrigerator
- coffee pot and
microwave oven
- one double bed,
a twin bed and a queen size futon are the major sleeping
accommodations
- also included
for convenience is a telephone, television, and a small outdoor rock
barbecue pit
Cottage 2 can sleep four guests comfortably, but can accommodate up to six guests if needed. Enjoy the comfort of our two room stone cottage, featuring:
- a small
refrigerator
- coffee pot and
microwave oven
- also included in
this unique setting is a telephone, television, and a large outdoor
fireplace/barbecue pit
- sleeping
accommodations consist of a double bed, 1 twin bed and a regular size
futon
Blankets, towels,
sheets, soap and other accessories are provided for guests at both
cottages.
Smoking is not allowed.
Small dogs allowed only (please inquire).
