Wrangell is a convenient" Base Camp" for travelers wanting to explore the natural wonders, wildlife and culture of Central Southeast Alaska's rural communities.
Wrangell is a hidden jewel, waiting to be discovered by you. There are adventures and experiences to last a lifetime for everyone. History, cultural sites, wildlife, natural beauty, glaciers, and excitement await you here.
A thrilling variety of Alaska wildlife excursions take you up close to glaciers, help you catch the fish of a life time, and find the Alaska wildlife you are searching for. Anan Bear and Wildlife Observatory is favorite spot to view Alaska brown and black bears up close as they feast on Wrangell's abundant salmon.
If history and cultural influences interest you, visit the Tlingit Chief Shakes Island and Tribal House Historic Monument, and Petroglyph Beach State Historic Park. Travel the Stikine River to visit the places where gold miners camped and garnets were mined, and see the abundant wildlife that lured the Hudson Bay Company to establish a settlement.
"I travel to Wrangell, Alaska for business at least 6 times a year and I always stay at the Sourdough Lodge. And I always recommend people stay at the Sourdough Lodge when in Wrangell. Bruce, the innkeeper, will go out of his way to make your stay a pleasant one."
"An outstanding lodge. Bruce will work with you to make your Alaska experience a memorable event. I have stayed there for the past fifteen years and will continue to do that annually. A great place."
"Harding's is one of only a few hotels in Wrangell. It's a friendly outpost in a small town. They'll pick you up at the plane and return you to the airport. Breakfast is included - cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast. Dinner is served family style and you must let Bruce know ahead of time so he can prepare enough. The day I was there, dinner was meatloaf and baked potato. More than adequate. The room was very comfortable and extremely clean."
"The Sourdough was great! We had a fabulous "home style meal". The room was CLEAN and the place has always been smoke free from the beginning. It's about half a mile walk to town along the beautiful harbor. We look forward to returning next year and spending more time. Thanks Sourdough for a great time!!! We loved the pets!!"

"My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our stay at the Alaskan Sourdough Lodge! Bruce has created a wonderful oasis of clean welcoming rooms which has the added attraction of a very adequate breakfast included in the quite reasonable price! Our salmon dinner was superb! The front porch is a great place to sit and visit with other guests and to watch pine siskins, hummingbirds, and squirrels feeding. And his meeting us at, and taking us to the ferry, as well as to our excursion meeting place, is a mark of a truly caring host! A+++!"
