Activities/Attractions: Crayfish Creek is just over one-hours’ drive (98 kilometres/61 miles) from the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal in Devonport. Crayfish Creek is an ideal central base to explore Tasmania’s northwest region.
Wander down and enjoy the beaches, shell coves, creeks and forest reserves, just a short stroll away. Try your hand at fishing or plan a bushwalk in the Rocky Cape National Park. The quaint town of Stanley is nearby where you can take a chairlift ride up The Nut, a volcanic plug discovered by explorers Bass and Flinders in 1798.
The north west, inhabited mostly by Tasmanians of European and indigenous descent, has large tracts of wilderness, which support rare and endangered wildlife, unusual geological formations and rich volcanic soils. The area has Tasmania’s most prosperous farming lands and is increasingly becoming a must-see tourist destination.
The rich soils are ideal for vegetable growing, dairy products, prime beef, honey, wine and fresh fruits. The patchwork countryside, reminiscent of England, has earned itself a clean, green image due to a reliable rainfall, lack of heavy industry and the geographical isolation from the rest of Australia. The region is a scenic coastline of progressive towns and cities, where residents breathe the cleanest air in the world, eat the freshest food on the planet and enjoy a healthy, relaxed lifestyle.
