Activities/Attractions: Salt Spring Island in British Columbia is the jewel of the Southern Gulf Islands - nestled up against the east side of Vancouver Island. Salt Spring Island is about half way between Nanaimo and Victoria, the capital city of B.C. The city of Vancouver on the mainland of B.C. is to the north.

Salt Spring Island has long been known as a very special place in BC. For the population, there are a very large number of artists, sculptors and musicians living here. The community got together and raised funds to build Art Spring — a brand new community hall. Many well known musicians, both local and from afar, have performed here already. Even the pubs have a pretty good showing of local talent performing there.

Visit one of our beautiful and famous seaside villages. The largest, Ganges, located in the centre of the island is a focal point for arts, restaurants and pubs, unique shops and book stores and our spectacular outdoor Saturday craft market. Our local marinas attract pleasure boaters, commercial and sports fishermen.

"We were in Ganges, the main town on Salt Spring Island in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, and it was nearing the full moon. We'd heard that kayaking was amazing at that time, but called around to a few local shops who refused to go out without a group of at least 6. At last we found Jack, the owner of Island Escapades, who agreed to have someone take us out the following night, and Sean (I think!) met us and took us on an AMAZING short (3 hour) kayaking venture under the full moon, with no wind, and with beautiful green phosphorescence in the water. He was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable about the area, and as excited as we were at the experience of the beautiful night on the still waters. I highly recommend that if you're in the Gulf Islands during a full moon to do this sort of kayaking trip, and these guys couldn't have been nicer or more professional and fun."

Our Lakeside Cottage is a lovely island hideaway nestled in the woods on the shores of Cusheon Lake. The setting is idyllic and the ambience most peaceful and welcoming. Salt Spring is a beautiful island, a treasure chest of vistas and activities. Should your interests be hiking or bird-watching, kayaking or sailing, shopping or visiting craft studios, your friendly hosts at Lakeside can help you plan the perfect getaway! The cottage is private, spacious and well-appointed, including:

• newly renovated, it is cedar-sided and beamed on the inside and has a great air-tight stove for keeping warm and cozy

Beachside Flat is a sweet place to be with a fabulous ocean vista and a multitude of Salt Spring adventures at your doorstep! Island Escapades "Unlimited" offers excellent kayaking, sailing and hiking excursions throughout this archipelago known as the Southern Gulf Islands.
