Activities/Attractions: The Coorong town of Meningie hugs the shoreline of Lake Albert and boasts picturesque parks and picnic areas where locals and visitors can enjoy a wide range of water sports. It is a thriving community with all the essentials for you to enjoy a genuine escape and time to relax, learn and reconnect.

Meningie combines all the charm of a small country town with stunning natural beauty of the Coorong and freshwater Lower Lakes Albert and Alexandrina of the Murray River. Soak up the peaceful atmosphere and relaxed lifestyle of this laid back waterfront town.

There were originally five tribes of the Ngarrindjeri people who occupied the Coorong and Meningie district. The name “Meningie” is widely accepted to be taken from the Aboriginal word meaning "mud". First European exploration was by Captain Charles Sturt in approx 1830 which was followed by overlanders who brought sheep and cattle. By 1840s the area was established with large properties and the ferry at Wellington was operating. Meningie was a staging post for the stagecoach traveller en-route to Melbourne and the goldfields of Ballarat.

Today it is a great place to relax and unwind, Stroll along the foreshore of Lake Albert and look out for the resident pelicans. Swim, fish or simply relax on the banks of the lake and take in the beautiful sunsets. Meningie boats a waterfront playground and barbecue area ideal for stretching the legs and picnics.

"Absolutely breathtaking views and sunsets, and we enjoyed the friendliness of the pelicans and the locals alike:) Booked a waterfront room with ensuite, listening to the waves lapping at the beach just outside the window. It was such a relaxing atmosphere. We had a great sleep because the motel is set back from the road. Best $90 we've spent in a motel ever."

"Beautiful view over lake (literally waterfront) with pelican sightings guaranteed, room is small but unbelievably cosy and all amenities provided. Very good heating (two heaters and electric blankets), Wi-Fi hotspot."

"Our rooms were serviced each day and were lovely and clean. And as for the view ... breathtaking sunset and so many pelicans. Even saw some egrets and ducks. So glad we stayed or we could have missed out on a great weekend. And the kids loved having the beach to run along. This was heaps better than we anticipated. In fact, we loved it and would definitely recommend it to our family and friends."
