Telephone: 098 26117, Activities/Attractions: Westport, designated one of Bord Failte's Heritage Towns, is situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, overlooking Clew Bay. One of the few planned towns in the Country, Westport was designed in the 18th Century by James Wyatt. It has become one of Ireland's established tourism centres, with many outstanding features, most notably the beautiful tree lined boulevard known as The Mall, running parallel to the Carrowbeg River. Westport is county Mayo's main tourist destination, it attracts holiday makers from all over the World and Ireland. Westport is considered to be one of the liveliest and most charming towns in the West of Ireland. Visitors come for a number of reasons, some of these include the scenery; the large number of pubs and restaurants in and around the town. The blue flag beaches and Croagh Patrick are another of its popular destination with visitors and often entice many to want to come back more often. Westport House and its Pirate Adventure Park is a great family attraction and provides entertainment through the summer months. Westport has an 18-hole golf course, which is relaxing quite and has great scenery. Horse riding and pony trekking are on offer all year round in a number of local equitation centres. Clay pigeon shooting, paintballing, hill walking, sailing and adventure sports are among the many other activities on offer to the visitor. Westport is also a leading sea angling centre. Boats may be hired by groups or individuals and leave the harbour daily, bound for the rich fishing grounds in the Bay, where a variety of fish offer excellent sport. There is a wide selection of sandy beaches to choose from on the North and South shores of Clew Bay, and down the coast south of the Bay to where the isolated strand of Thallabawn meets Killary Harbour, Ireland's only fjord. Many of the beaches are EC Blue Flag winners including Bertra, near Murrisk, Old Head and Carramore in Louisburgh. "I had a brilliant stay here the people here were so nice and welcoming and showed me and my partner a great stay they were able to advise us on great places to go while we stayed in Westport. The room we stayed in was gorgeous we had a queen sweet and it felt like I was a queen. The breakfast was lovely and such a huge variety I found it hard to choose what I wanted most blueberry pancakes or a full Irish. I would recommended this place to anyone looking fore somewhere to stay in Westport I know ill be going back again and that's where I'll be staying." |

The breakfast is good also, with a much better choice than usual for a B&B. It is located on the Newport Road about 5 minutes walk from the centre of town so is very convenient." "Stayed in this bed and breakfast for a night out with friends in Westport. This B and B has been recently re-furbished with a new owner and the bedrooms are fab. Even four poster beds! We got tea and chocolates on arrival which was a nice touch. It's about a 5 min walk into the centre of the town so its in a good location. Would definitely recommend it for a weekend in Westport." |
