Address: 2846 Spirit Lake Hwy, Castle Rock, Washington 98611 USA
Activities/Attractions: Castle Rock, the Gateway to Mount St. Helens, is situated between the Cowlitz River and Interstate 5,134 miles south of Seattle and 63 miles north of Portland, Oregon. Castle Rock’s historic downtown features a wide variety of shops, antique stores and restaurants. The town’s namesake, a 190-foot-high rock, was a landmark for Cowlitz Indians and Hudson’s Bay Company traders as early as 1832.
Castle Rock's award-winning Riverfront Trail provides walking, jogging, and biking along the scenic Cowlitz River. Taking the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway (SR-504) east out of Castle Rock is the first step in a amazing adventure. Just east out of town lies the popular Silver Lake, a favorite recreational area. Those who choose to travel the entire 53 miles of the highway will be rewarded with stunning views of the majestic Mount St. Helens.
There are many trails on the east side of Mount St. Helens, leading hikers into the heart of the blast area. They provide outstanding views of the new lava dome. The south side of Mount St. Helens provides outstanding opportunities to discover the ancient lava flows and recent mudflows that scoured down the slopes of Mount St. Helens.
"This place is wonderful and the host is very gracious. We arrived to find wine and cheese available which we enjoyed on their deck with a view of Silver Lake (mostly a marsh view) and Mount St. Helens (when the weather is clear). The room was nice with a Queen and Sofa twin sleeper. Room was clean and had a TV. The place is on the highway to Mount St. Helens but during the evenings, there really is no traffic so very quiet. There are several common areas which are great for relaxing. They have a room with a TV, VCR, DVD with tapes/DVDs to use. They offer books and games to play. This is definitely the best place to stay in Castle Rock!"
"Spent two nights here while hiking and exploring the Mount St. Helens area. This offers the best of both worlds - most of the conveniences of a modern motel with the charm of a B&B. Our host was very knowledgeable and friendly, the food delicious, and the facilities first rate. Our only regret was we were unable to take advantage of spacious and stunning common areas nor the nightly wine & cheese receptions due to our busy schedule."

"This B&B is very pretty, cozy, friendly and convenient. We stayed in the Jacuzzi room (I recommend this!) for 2 nights during our Mt St Helens stay. The owner, is very enthusiastic, informative and a fabulous cook. The Inn was very clean and nicely decorated. It is easy to find and close (within 30 minutes or so) to all the activities. The breakfast cooked every morning by John was large and very tasty. I would recommend this B&B to everyone wanting to stay in this area. We will be back!"
"I had the best stay at the Blue Heron Inn, the owners were the kindest hosts I've ever experienced. I can't wait for my next getaway with my wife to the Blue Heron Inn. We found it to be a perfect launching point for our adventures up to the Volcano. Don't miss this beautiful Bed and Breakfast. OBTW when we were there we got to meet a National Geographic Writer who was doing a update on the Volcano. I would have never guessed I'd meet someone famous like that!"
"BHI is about 30-something miles away from Mt. St. Helens (MSH), but right across the street from one of the MSH visitor centers. It's clean, spacious, attractive and comfy. The owner, was a delightful host. Breakfasts were homemade, ample and delicious."
"This modern inn on the road to the Coldwater and Johnston Ridge visitor centers is an excellent choice if you're searching for comfortable, modern accommodations in this area. Set on 5 acres of land across the highway from Silver Lake, the inn has an excellent view of Mount St. Helens. Lots of decks provide plenty of places for relaxing and soaking up the view, and during cooler weather, you can sit by the fire in the parlor. This inn is, by far, the best bet for accommodations in the area."
