The second largest tree in the world, the General Grant Tree, and the Nation's Christmas Tree is located at Grant Grove in Kings Canyon. Both parks provide a hiker's domain of spectacular peaks, canyons, lakes and streams, threaded with a thousand miles of trails. Connecting the two national parks is the Generals Highway, a 46 mile long scenic road from Ash Mountain through Giant Forest to Grant Grove. The highway reaches 7,643 feet at Big Baldy Saddle. This highway and branch roads take you to such attractions as Moro Rock, Crystal Cave, Crescent Meadow, Big Stump Grove and Roaring Fork Falls. You can enjoy Lake Kaweah, only 2 miles from the Plantation, or drive to Mineral King, a peaceful valley beneath the peaks of the Great Western Divide. Stroll through the lawns and acre Grove Park and you will see not only orange trees but grapefruit, plum, apricot, cherry, lemon, tangerine, avocado, fig, pear, pomegranate, apple, nectarine, banana and olive trees, as well as grapevines and herb and vegetable gardens that provide the freshest produce possible. Just for your sensual delight recline in an Adirondack chair under a weeping willow, laze in a hammock suspended between palm trees and enjoy the birds and butterflies flitting among the many blossoming vines, shrubs, flowers and ornamental and shade trees.
