Activities/Attractions: Mendocino is a very special place located about half way between the Oregon Border and San Francisco ... one of only a few Historical Preservation Districts in the state of California. It sets on a peninsula at the mouth of Big River, one of the few natural running rivers left. Its back is to the Redwoods and its front to the rugged Pacific coastline.

The architectural style of the town is characteristic of pre-1900 building designs that include many Victorians and Main Street America characteristics. With beautiful scenery in every direction, Mendocino is a pedestrian scale town that offers a pleasant experience for the visitor. It boasts many fine restaurants and art galleries and is home to good theater and music events throughout the year. Art schools and recreational activities of all types are easily accessible.

Glendeven is located on the headlands above the beach and bay at Little River, less than two miles south of Mendocino Village and adjacent to Van Damme State Park with its hundreds of pristine acres stretching from the Pacific Ocean back into old redwood forests. A leisurely stroll from the inn takes you through the Park, either to cliffs overlooking the ocean or down to a beach.

"Wow, I wish that we had discovered Glendeven sooner! We went there as a belated Birthday gift and loved everything about the inn. There are so many special touches from the featherbeds to the assortment of CDs to enjoy during our stay that made this place over the top. We enjoyed being able to relax in the evenings in the living room with coffee and cookies, as well as the wine reception with the crackling fire. The grounds here are so beautiful and relaxing. The breakfast was amazing. We enjoyed having it delivered to our room and being able to eat while looking out at the gardens. The hike out to headlands was beautiful also. It is so peaceful being there on the bluff of the ocean on a foggy morning. We stayed in the garden room, and will be back again for another visit ... hopefully sooner than later."

"The proprietor, greeted us as we walked-up and showed us three beautiful, well-pointed, and sun-filled rooms - all with ocean views. We opted for the Bayview room and weren't disappointed. It has a separate sitting room with wood-burning fireplace, and a gorgeous deck/balcony for lounging. You're just across the street from the ocean and can walk along the stunning headlands along the bluffs ... If you're looking for a relaxing, warm and gorgeous place to get reinvigorated over the weekend, you're sure to get it at Glendeven Inn."

"Great spot on the coast to relax and leave business back at the office. Better than advertised. We will be back!"

"We just returned from two days of spring break spent at Glendeven, and we just loved it! Our Garret room had wonderful coastal views; we could even see the ocean from the bed, which was a wonderful featherbed. There were very few people there, and we shared a bottle of wine and all of the hors d'oeuvres on the first night. The breakfasts were incredible, and how wonderful to have them delivered directly to our room. We had a beautiful collection of music to choose from, and the entire experience was wonderful. My traveling companion has stayed in B & B's in locations throughout Europe, and he ranks Glendeven as in the top three. The cleanliness was impressive, and we would highly recommend Glendeven to other travelers."

"The room is comparable to the 5-star hotels I've stayed at. The breakfast was delicious as well."

"This is a top notch inn with exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff, great amenities and fantastic food. The grounds are well kept and everything is in fine working order. The beds are heavenly - you can get lost in them. It was hard to get out of the bed it was so luxurious ... The location is great- walking distance to the beach and a state park next door- and 2 miles from Mendocino. We'd definitely stay at Glendeven again and were all in all very pleased with the experience."

"The Inn is incredibly relaxing. If you are burned out, just needing quiet time and space in a beautiful setting, you can't beat Glendeven. Mendocino is, of course, so charming and inspirational (if you're a writer or artist, for instance). I've stayed in the main building alone and had a wonderful time (on the second floor). But if you can afford it, try the Bay Loft room or (my favorite) Briar Rose ... Enjoy the wonderful breakfast and afternoon tea/wine/treats. It's really hard to leave this place!"
