Nearby Attractions: Horseback riding is the main summer attraction here on the 2,500 acre Bar M. On scenic mountain rides through the pines, you are likely to see deer, bear, and other wildlife. Early in the year there are herds of elk to watch.

For those who are flatlanders, we have riding along the 3 miles of the Umatilla River that run through the ranch. Down at the corral you can try barrel racing and pole bending. Riding instructions are offered.

The hot springs pool, which maintains a temperature of around 85 degrees, is there and waiting when you return from your long ride and need to pamper those sore muscles. If you enjoy bird watching, the Bar M is a paradise. You can also hike, bike, pitch horseshoes and play badminton outside.  In the huge log recreation barn you can play volleyball, basketball and archery.

Fishing for trout on the Umatilla River is catch & release , fly fishing instruction is available.

"Our family vacation at the Bar M was everything we'd hoped for and more. Fun, relaxing, family oriented, with as little or as much as one wants to do, spectacular food, hospitality that is second to none, and breath taking views. Activities ranged from two trails each day (optional) guided by very experienced, knowledgeable wranglers who pick the best horse for the rider based on level of experience from a large selection of horses., games in the barn, overnight campout, feeding the ranch animals, fishing etc. We loved the old fashioned dinner bell that rang for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. We enjoyed getting to know the entire staff including Host Barb Seeger and owner Kent Madison and learning about the history of the Bar M Ranch. Our family can't wait to schedule our next visit to the Bar M Ranch."

"My husband and I spent a week early this summer at the Bar M Ranch. It was one of the most relaxing laid back vacations we have ever had. We were treated like we were the only guests there. We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay. The horses we rode were gentle and well cared for. They seemed to enjoy the beautiful scenery as much as we did. The accommodations were warm and inviting right down to the Pendleton bedspreads. We can not say enough about the food. 3 wonderfully prepared meals a day. We both ate way too much food! One other high point at the Bar M is the natural hot springs that feed both the pool and the hot tub. There is nothing like kicking back in either after a day of riding. It helped to soothe our sore muscles and get us ready for the next day. Last but not least the overall thing that stood out to us was the caring, fun and joking manner in which we got along with all of the staff. We recommend the Bar M to anyone looking for a great vacation."

"My husband and I took our "horse-crazy" 10-year-old daughter to The Bar M, our first guest ranch vacation. To our delight, we were immediately introduced to our "new home" of rolling hills, rushing river and friendly hospitality. We salivated when the dinner bell rang because the home-cooked meals were so exceptional (fresh raspberries!), the accommodations better than home and the hot spring fed pool -- OOOhhhh! what a delight after a 2 hour ride in the mountains. Each of us argued over whose horse was "the best" as each of them handled so nicely and quickly became our 4-footed best friends. A lovely touch was being entertained by a fiddle, a mandolin and a guitar after dinner on the deck one night! The list goes on and we hope to return soon and bring more friends to discover the beauty and wonder of North-eastern Oregon."

"I have wanted to go to a dude ranch most of my life, but never had the opportunity until now. Our whole family enjoyed riding horses last year in Colorado so much, we thought a dude ranch would be great. After searching the web for places, we came upon Bar M, and it sounded like heaven. It was! Barb Seeger, the mgr., Jason and Maxine (the young wranglers), and all the staff made us feel like we came home to family. The horse rides were fun, the scenery was gorgeous, the food was fabulous! I haven't had such a relaxing vacation since I was a kid, and I'm in my 40's! We got to brush, saddle and feed our horses, if and when we wanted to. And all the trails were on Bar M's property, so we didn't have to share them with anyone else! If you want a never- to- forget vacation, in a quiet, beautiful place, with fun & friendly people, you must go to Bar M!"
