Hosts: The Carroccia Family Units: 6 (for 20 people) Address: 460 Rein Lane - Big Timber, MT 59011 USA Click here for location. Telephone: 406-537-4477 Fax: 406-537-4477 Activities/Attractions: We have no social organization and no television. Guests are free to enjoy the ranch as they wish.
Evenings are filled with good conversation, an impromptu sing-along by a campfire, a game of horseshoes or billiards, star-gazing or an occasional brilliant display of the Northern lights, if not an awe-inspiring lightning storm. Trips to enjoy our rich cultural heritage can be arranged to ghost towns, museums, Indian ceremonials, Yellowstone Park and rodeos. Riding: This is our main activity whether we're working cattle or scenic riding: six days a week over a scope that ranges from high alpine lakes and meadows to the foothills and out into the lower rolling country of our winter ranch. Daily we offer short and long all-day rides as well as morning and afternoon rides. Fishing: There is challenging dry fly fishing in the clear, rushing waters of the Sweet Grass; the Brown trout love the deep, shadowed pools below the falls. Mountain lakes also are good rainbow trout fishing while the stocked beaver ponds offer an easier approach closer to the ranch, and one the kids really enjoy. "This is the best holiday we've ever had - good food, great company, fantastic horses and scenery - what can I say? Breath-taking!" |

General Information: Welcome to Sweet Grass Ranch in Big Timber, Montana ... a working cattle ranch secluded in the Crazy Mountains of south central Montana, 40 miles from Big Timber. The ranch sits at 6,100 feet on the Sweet Grass Creek. We are a family ranching tradition since 1880 when great-granddad settled under Porcupine Butte, around the corner from Pleny Coups' camp. We are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Our cabins nestle along the Sweet Grass, so you can hear the creek in the evening, along with owls and coyotes. Accommodations range from small rustic log cabins without bath to rooms in the main ranch house to larger, framed family cabins with private baths and plenty of hot water.
