Telephone: 1-503-368-5858, Fax: 503-368-4204 Activities/Attractions: The village of Wheeler was born in the early 1900's with the completion of a rail link to the navigable waters of Nehalem Bay. The train provided a means of delivering lumber and seafood to Portland and points east. The lumber mills and fish packing plants of Wheeler's early decades are gone now, leaving a charming little village of historic buildings strung together on the edge of that beautiful bay as if they were displayed on a mantle at Christmas. Wheeler has been called "the little town with the million-dollar view!". It is a captivating place to relax, refresh, and enjoy the scenic splendor of Oregon's north coast.
There are several one-way kayak trips ... we take you up river
and you float down river and back to the lodge. You can take a
break at Nehalem, dock your kayak at the public docks, have lunch,
shop, or just take five. Cruise the beautiful Nehalem Bay and River onboard the Stinger Luxuriate in the 23' boat as pilot Capt. Paul Jones narrates the history and provides Eco-tour enriched sightings and information. "Every room is different here, but ours had a whirlpool tub and a big comfy bed ... The staff are all friendly and accommodating. Best part about this place is that they'll rent you some kayaks off their own dock so you can explore the slough by boat, watching for blue herons, sea lions, and the occasional lost Orca." |
