Activities/Attractions: Loughborough is a university town renowned for its sports faculty. Located on an old site, the town prospered on wool, hosiery, knitwear and lace. The 1778 canal opening helped its 19th century industrial expansion. It was the one of the first towns to have proper sewage and drinking water supplies.

There is a good shopping centre with Carillon Court, a covered shopping mall, and Churchgate, now pedestrianised, is one of the old streets.

For sport, there is a racecourse, at Wigston A50 south of the city, and a popular football team(!). Outside the city, there are wild moorland and  woods at Bradgate, and at Swithland (B5328 off A6 towards Loughborough), which also has a reservoir and golf course.
