Farming continues to be the backbone of today's economy with 250 thousand acres of cultivated land surrounding Minneapolis, the county seat of Ottawa County and only a short distance from Wells.
Recreational opportunities include a nine hole golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool, ball diamonds, and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts. Several lakes, including Ottawa County's famous fishing lake, are within a few minutes drive.
