Activities/Attractions: Sylva is a quaint town in Western North Carolina surrounded by the beautiful mountains. Our downtown, a Main Street community, has many restaurants and shops along our tree-lined streets. Recreational opportunities abound here. We have a state of the art playground designed by our children and built by the community.
The town owns a pristine tract of land, 1,100 acres, that boasts hiking trails (moderate to difficult), waterfalls and a 180 degree view from 5,000 feet. The Nantahala River is less than an hour away for those who enjoy white water rafting. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a 30 minute drive. Our most valuable assets are our people (2,450 strong and growing) and our wonderful Appalachian heritage.

General Information: Mountain Brook Fireplace Cottages in Sylva, North Carolina were designed and constructed of native materials in the 1930s by the Clark Family and formerly known as Clark's Cottages, the property was distinctive for its over-shot waterwheel.
The McMahon's bought the property in 1979 from the Clarks and have updated it through the years. The sparkling brooks, undisturbed woods and waterfalls still remain the most impressive thing about the property. We maintain the "old-timey" feeling and provide a tranquil getaway place for folks who need a respite from their busy lives!
