Activities/Attractions: The heart of Provence is the area bounded by Avignon in the North, Marseille in the South Aix en Provence in the East and Arles in the West. You are never far from the sea and the sun shines most of  the time. Visitors receive a genuinely warm welcome. The towns are full of history and are also full of colour, with frequent markets and festivals. The countryside varies from plains and beaches, to rocky cliffs, from vineyards to hills with superb views of the Southern Alps.

We are in easy reach of Aix, Arles, Avignon, Marseille and the Luberon, the Camargue, and the Alpilles. Sporting activities at the house or close by include tennis, sailing, the sea, golf and trekking. We love having visitors and enjoy the challenge of making your holiday a happy one. All meals can be provided - and cooking lessons too if you are interested; we all eat together and dinner is a very special moment; not just for eating and drinking but also to discuss the experiences of the day and plans for tomorrow. However there are also good local restaurants within a quarter of an hours drive.

"Rabassière means "where truffles are found" and his Epicurian dinners are a must; vintage wine and a sculpted dancer grace his terrace table. Cookery classes with olive oil from his trees, jogging companionship, airport pick up are all part of his unflagging hospitality, aided by Thevi, his serene Singaporean assistant. Big bedrooms and drawing room are comfortable in English country house style: generous beds, erudite bookshelves and a tuned piano, Provençal antiques. Come savour this charmingly generous and individual house."

“With its magnificent view over fields and the Etang de Berre, its well kept garden and its elegant rooms decorated with an Anglo Saxon eye to comfort, this Mas has all the qualities needed for pleasant relaxation. It has however much more than that, thanks to the personality of Michael Frost, with his enthusiasm, his availability, and his sense of humour. Helped by Thevi with her marvellous cooking, he organises unforgettable holidays full of friendship and joy of living."

We provide pick up at the local airport (Marseille/Provence about 20 minutes away) or at Miramas station, and can arrange a driver/guide by the day if you don't want to face French traffic.

General Information: La Rabassière is a comfortable, well equipped family B&B (bed and breakfast, homestay, lodge, chambre d'hôte, landhaus) at the very centre of the Provence countryside in the South of France, between Saint-Chamas and Cornillon Confoux. We are open all the year round, and have five guest rooms, each with their private bathroom: of these we normally only let three, keeping the two others for family and friends.

The garden of about three acres is mostly given over to olive trees, but there is also a good sized swimming pool, a tennis court, a croquet lawn and a boules ground. It faces South and has magnificent views. The house has:

  • a large drawing room
  • a grand piano in tune
  • a dining room
  • a TV room
  • a small library
  • a large family kitchen

All the rooms have individual air conditioning in summer and heating in winter. The terraces are well protected from the Mistral wind from the North, and we can have lunch outside almost every day of the year. The surrounding country is open to walking, jogging and mountain biking, and the local golf course is at Miramas about 5 minutes drive away.

Payment Accepted: Cash and cheques.

"Where else would you find such "little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love"? Where else but in Provence? That and 3000 hours of sun a year. La Rabassière is a comfortable family home with individually air conditioned rooms. For most of the year life is outdoors, but there is a drawing room (with grand piano), TV room, dining room, library and large sunny kitchen producing delicious Provençal and Indian meals. The three acres of south facing terraced gardens are mostly given over to olive trees, but there is a tennis court, 12 x 6m pool, croquet lawn and boules. Arles, Avignon, St Remy, Aix and Marseille are all between 30 and 45 minutes away, as are the Camargue, the Mediterranean and the Luberon. The local golf course is excellent and is about 5km from the house."
