Activities/Attractions: Amberley is a town of 1100 people and growing, and a place where you can explore the cafes, crafts, camp grounds or the peaceful coastline, before striking out up-country.

It's home to the Nor' Wester Cafe - one of New Zealand's best cafes. Arts and crafts abound here and the area is renowned for its impressive country gardens. The Amberley Beach golf course is a must with sweeping views of the coastline and a favourite for keen fishermen.

All sorts of interesting history lies waiting to be investigated as well as great bush walks nearby at Mount Grey and Lake Janet. Amberley is just a 40min drive from Christchurch International Airport and a 45min drive from Hanmer Springs.  Seven minutes north of Amberley is the Waipara Valley, one of the fastest growing wine producing regions in New Zealand.

The Waipara Wine Trail starts north of Amberley, offering a wide selection of tastings and excellent lunches. The beach is close by and good for walking. There is also an attractive Golf Course at the beach.

General Information: Welcome to Bredon Downs Homestay ... situated on State Highway 1, just 1 km south of the Amberley township and 48 km north of Christchurch, New Zealand within easy reach of the Airport and conveniently sited on the way to or from the inter-island ferry.

Guests may choose between a room with queen-sized bed and ensuite or a room with twin beds and private bathroom with spa bath and separate shower. For the visitor on their own we also have a single room.

• All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and filtered water is supplied
  
• All beds are fitted with electric blankets. Laundry facilities are also available
  
• We offer continental or full English breakfasts and we will be pleased to serve you dinner by prior arrangement

Our old farmhouse has been comfortably renovated and is off the road and surrounded by an English style garden with swimming pool and extensive lawns. We breed ostriches and are only too pleased to show these to anyone interested.
