Activities/Attractions: The Lower Rio Grande Valley is among the most biologically diverse regions in the United States and is one of the best places for bird viewing in the world. Almost 500 different species have been documented in the area.
The area’s unique foliage and environment make it an ideal location for birds to nest and breed. Millions of birds use the flyway or stop to rest in the native habitat on their seasonal migratory paths. Wildlife such as bobcats, raccoons, green jays, roadrunners, hawks, javelinas, chachalacas and different varieties of butterflies can be seen in their natural habitat.

General Information: El Rocio Retreat is a unique 18-acre property located outside the city limits of Mission, Texas. The main home (Casa de Luna) is nestled in its natural surrounding and includes:
- the sunlit atrium filled with books, videos, and the
history of El Rocio
- the chandelier lit dining room contains two Harvard Law
Library tables which has seating for 12 quests, supported by the
"Tree of Life"
- the sunken living room containing a free standing
fireplace and a panoramic view of the backyard
- the fully equipped kitchen area features an island that
was created from Texas a cypress tree
- he house has a master bedroom featuring a king sized
bed which can be converted into two twin beds. There is a second
bedroom featuring a queen sized bed
In the summer of 2004, a new addition was created to El Rocio. A 2000 sq. ft. meeting room (Casa Del Sol) features a complete kitchen along with two bathrooms. The new meeting room can hold over one hundred guests for weddings, conferences, birthday parties or corporate outings.
Casa Jardin was the original home for the builder, Craig Morton. It was later remodeled by Marsha Gamel-Nelson to be utilized as a rental unit. Following many years of being a rental property, the Nelson's chose to refurbish the unit to now be used as a Bed & Breakfast, with:
- a queen sized bed
- fully equipped kitchen and dining area
- a full bathroom with a shower/tub
- a large closet, sitting area with TV/DVD/VCR
A typical morning of B & B could include sitting on the front deck overlooking the butterfly garden.
